Offered for sale is a beautiful 2.0 Shakuhachi tuned to the key of C. This instrument is crafted and double-stamped by the maker Icho (please note: this is a distinct maker from Ichijo Kobayashi).
Playability & Sound
This flute is an excellent player with a modern performance character. It produces a full, robust sound with excellent tuning throughout the registers. It is highly responsive, reaching the Dai-Kan range with ease and handling all standard fingerings comfortably.
Aesthetics & Ergonomics
The bamboo features a stunning spotted aesthetic with a dark, stained root end displaying sought-after patterns and coloration.
Physically, this is a relatively slender and lightweight instrument (approx. 383g / 13.5oz). With a mouthpiece diameter of 32mm and a circumference of 101mm, it sits in the thinner range of the spectrum. This makes it an exceptionally comfortable choice for players with smaller hands or those who find heavy, thick bamboo tiring to hold.
Construction & Condition
* Joint (Nakatsugi): Traditional rattan and silver binding.
* Mouthpiece (Utaguchi): Kinko-style black horn inlay with a silver border.
* Bore: Finished with traditional reddish-brown Urushi lacquer, currently in excellent condition.
* Repair Note: There is a crack at the head of the flute which has been stable and closed for several years. It is professionally secured with four inlaid rattan bindings.
